APPEARANCE AND BODY PERCEPTION① Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?Leaning on the taller end of the scale for a Highlander Hyur female, lean with wiry muscle concentrated in the thighs and biceps. Very much a martial artist's body.
② How old is she?31 or 32. Honestly she tends to forget.
③ Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well, or does she slouch?Loose and easy, definitely walks with a swagger from place to place if just minding her own business. Better to look like one belongs somewhere to ward off hopeful pickpockets or muggers. Much of Ceri's cavalier attitude is projected through body language.
Mind you, trying to look cool and casual is much less effective after having a few drinks and accidentally tipping her chair too far backwards, but let's not discuss that.
④ How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?Fit fit fit. Had a tendency to wake up horrifically hung over, but that doesn't usually keep her down for very long or have much of a negative impact on day-to-day life aside from the expected nausea and general malaise.
Has a limp from an old injury that didn't set properly, but it's hardly noticeable unless you're actively watching for it.
⑤ How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? With purpose. Getting from point A to point B as quickly and painlessly as possible, often cutting through shady territory or back alleys to extradite travel.
⑥ How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?I mean, if 'charmingly scruffy' is your type, maybe a 5 or 6 out of ten? She's neither dainty nor classy, so most of her appeal lies in having a silver tongue, roguish confidence, and a knack for smooth gestures of affection ("Affection" being used very, very loosely here... she never does so with genuine intent to romance anyone). Ceri generally doesn't see herself as anything groundbreaking. Just another poor sod trying to scrape by like anyone else.
⑦ Describe her complexion: dark, light, clear, scarred?Darker complexion as is common in most Hyur Highlanders, with lighter scar tissue both old and new crisscrossing the forearms.
⑧ Describe her hair: color, texture, style.Ginger, thick and unruly as all get out. Bound in a braid and tied with a loop of leather to keep it in check, although her bangs refuse to cooperate no matter what's done to them.
⑨ What color are her eyes?Green.
⑩ Does the character have any other noteworthy features?N/A ⑪ What are her chief tension centers?Hips and lower back.
⑫ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?Everyday clothing is pretty casual - neutral coloured tunic/vest/slops/boots, anything that breathes well and won't stink to high heaven after a day of hard work.
⑬ Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?Loose and comfy or fitted just so. Pinchy clothing is the worst.
⑭ Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?Comfort demands loose and light fabric, which is great for when she's out and about carousing as usual or busy sleeping off her latest drinking binge. Work clothes are the opposite - you don't want a sleeve flapping around in the breeze for some enterprising thaumaturge to light on fire on a whim. Ceri runs a tight ship when it comes to dressing for combat; a long vest with added hood (trimmed for warmth) in case of inclement weather, a matching helmet/headdress, armoured leggings, long gloves, and weighted boots.
⑮ You knew it was coming: what kind of underwear does she wear, if any?Nothing, if she has it her way, but at most maybe a breastband and pair of pantalettes if she really has to.
>> top SPEECH① What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?Smoky/husky from many years of partying hard when the opportunity presents itself, otherwise fairly average in pitch and tone.
② How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?A casual drawl that you'd expect from someone that just woke up. Often draws out her sentences just to watch the other party get impatient, since she's both extraordinarily petty and gets amusement out of winding someone up.
③ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Not in particular, although she does tend to lapse into rougher speech/cuss more liberally depending on the company in question.
④ What language(s) does she speak and with how much fluency?Exclusively common.
⑤ Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?Nope! What you see is what you get with her. ⑥ Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words? She's definitely got a gift for making stuff up on the fly if she needs to. Bullshitting convincingly is an asset in her line of work.
⑦ Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?Fairly eloquent, although that rapidly deteriorates after she has a few drinks.
>> top EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL① How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?Exceptionally street smart, not particularly book smart.
② Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?Snap decisions is definitely one of her strengths. Long, convoluted planning should be left to someone else.
③ Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?Intuitive and practical. Creature of instinct and all that.
④ What kind of education has the character had?A general basic education, or whatever was available to Ala Mhigan children prior to the mass exodus. She can't claim to have been a studious child by any means though.
⑤ What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?Contracted mercenary work ferreting out Garlean incursions is her biggest source of income, but she has been known to dabble as a hired hand in private employ. If it pays well she'll consider it. On the other hand, she has no qualms about being aggressively and pointedly """friendly""" with wealthy individuals that stray too far from their entourage or safe roads. It's not technically mugging if you just drop some ominous hints now and then, right?
⑥ Is she an introvert or an extrovert?Extrovert.
⑦ Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered, or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholic? Laid-back or driven?A Chill Dude for the most part. She'll trade quips with the best of them, but at the end of the day if an argument isn't something that would stick with you for thirty years, it's not worth worrying about. Live and let live, yadda yadda yadda.
Plus it's easier to blindside an insistent drunk bastard with a sucker punch to the kidney if you don't telegraph your intentions first, especially if said drunk bastard has a visible and easily accessible coin purse for her troubles.
⑧ How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?Casual interest, usually lets the newcomer do the lion's share of talking if/when given a chance to have a conversation. Usually she'll have a good idea of who they are and what they're about by the end of it.
⑨ Is she more likely to act or to react?Act, if given the choice. Just reacting is too passive and gives outside forces too much control for her liking.
⑩ Which is her default: fight or flight?FITE FITE FITE FITE
⑪ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?Jokes are great! Pranks too, but she's more likely to be on the receiving end than be the perpetrator. Innuendo is her forte for sure.
⑫ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If so, how does she deal with them?N/A
⑬ What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?Well there was that whole "Garlean Invasion" and "being a refugee sucks ass" thing, but eh. Life. Roll with the punches and make the best of it.
⑭ What does she fear?Honestly, probably old age. Ceri simply can't handle the idea of one day being slower, weaker, and duller than the day before, and only going downhill from there. Pretty unsurprising since she's fiercely self-sufficient.
⑮ What are her hopes or aspirations?A stable amount of income, housing, etc etc. Being able to retire comfortably and still have enough to go on the odd adventure if the whim strikes.
⑯ What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her? Can't cook worth half a damn. She'd be the type to burn a salad if left to her own devices.
>> top RELATIONSHIPS① Describe this character's relationship with her parents.Strained. Her parents are pretty much stranded in Ul'dah with very little hope of their situation improving, but they don't approve of her risking her safety even if the rewards are greater. They don't speak much. ② Does the character have any siblings? What is their relationship like? One older brother, who is infinitely more cautious and currently engaged in helping out with their parents. They're on good terms and visit whenever her schedule allows, where she'll usually slip him whatever currency she's saved up so he can feed their parents on the sly. ③ Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?None that she's reconnected with. The mass exodus from Ala Mhigo was so chaotic most familial units were shattered entirely. ④ Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?None close enough to be "family", per se, but she has plenty of friendly acquaintances in the sellsword community.
⑤ Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet?A gruff Sea Wolf Roegadyn man named Grinanwyrn has the best friend title for sure. They started out as two green adventurers and grew to be fairly competent over many years - while baddies are busy being threatened by the big bastard with a battleaxe, she zips around and stomps them into the dirt if they get close enough.
They're the best of friends, even if their exchanges are primarily made up of playful insults and bicep-punching. ⑥ Does she have other close friends?Well... I mean... a few friends with benefits, but...
⑦ Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?Ceri's a friendly person by default! She takes genuine interest in the stories people have to offer about their lives, and who doesn't enjoy talking about themselves?
⑧ Which does she consider more important: family or friends?Ehhhhh.... I mean, if it was her blood brother Grinanwyrn vs her very emotionally distant parents... That's a pretty tough call.
⑨ Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?Happily single, and planning to stay that way.
⑩ Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?Nope. She greatly enjoys her freedom and isn't ready to settle down for a good long while yet.
⑪ Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?First was probably some Ala Mhigan lad when she was in her teens, and she can't rightly remember so far back. Her latest infatuation was a Miqo'te bard with a lovely singing voice and unfortunately a significant other that didn't appreciate her nosing around. Ceri's not the kind of person to drive a wedge between a happy couple though and let them be. Plenty of fish in the sea, as the saying goes. ⑫ What does she look for in a romantic partner? Most traits are reliant on whatever she feels like at the moment, but she's admittedly fairly shallow and appreciates a guy who's fit, confident, and hygienic - most especially fellow warriors of all kinds. She's tends not to be attracted to perfectly primped and polished aristocrat types due to some personal bias against the upper class. Otherwise, a good sense of humour and wilnever hurts.
⑬ Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If so, how does she relate to them? If not, does she want any?Nope nope nope so much nope. Children are not in her future.
⑭ Does she have any rivals or enemies? There's probably someone, somewhere, harboring a grudge against her, but she doesn't know of any. Even with rival mercenary bands she tries to keep things down to a "it's not personal, just business" mindset. ⑮ What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey Scale?Heterosexual so far, not that she isn't open to experimentation with the right person. Definitely leans heavily towards men though. Maybe a 1 or a 2 on the Kinsey. ⑯How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?Very ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ about it. Does she want to? Does the other party want to? Cool, let's get down to business. Maybe grab a drink or two after and shoot the breeze while they're at it. If they're not up for it, that's okay too. Just chatting about the weather is fine. It's not of the utmost importance or anything, but it's nice to get a tumble now and then. ⑰ What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?Turn ons: confidence, martial skill, dependability, big buff dudes, and deep rumbly voices. Ho lawdy. Turn offs: entitlement, clinginess, and flinging around wealth like it's going out of style. Gil isn't a substitute for moral substance.
>> top BELIEFS① Do you know your character's astrological sign? How well does she fit the type?Leo. Fits fairly well considering her massive mane of bedhead most mornings.
② Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life? Not particularly spiritual, but it never hurts to pay homage to the Twelve anyway.
③ Does this character have a personal code of ethics or morals? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?Ceri is at her core a realist. If someone is trying their best to jab their weapon through your chest, put them down quickly without fanfare so you can move on. If they're hurt badly enough not to fight back, let them be - it's better to have the enemy drain resources on the sick and wounded in the long run.
As for her occasional wandering on the wrong side of the law, there's no point targeting everyday individuals unless they're foolish enough to flaunt their financial status or brag about windfall profits from a bout of good fortune in the Gold Saucer. As the saying goes, "a fool from his money is soon parted". Forcibly.
She sticks to her guns and wouldn't budge an inch from her (admittedly questionable) moral compass under pressure.
④ How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?Indifferent. You do you, cupcake. Everyone should be allowed personal freedoms without judgement... providing you're not going full-throttle fruitcake bonkers like the Lambs of Dalamud. ⑤ What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational, or does she have a good reason for them?If she has any prejudices, they're aimed towards people like Ul'dah's ruling elite or Ishgard's four ruling houses. Considering the frequently petty reasons she's hired, and most often by the upper class, Ceri's been exposed to the worst of them and as a result doesn't think very highly of noblemen/women. To some degree, she tends to be suspicious of Elezen aristocrats hailing from Ishgard or merchant class Dunefolk Lalafell.
>> top DAILY LIFE① What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?Just barely squeaking by. She sends any extra funds she can scrounge off to her family and makes do with what she can. ② What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?Lower class, if she needed to be labelled. Working as a hired gun (so to speak) means she moves largely outside the conventional social spheres on a day to day basis. ③ Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?Varies. She has modest shared arrangements with Grinanwyrn in Ul'dah; if one isn't there usually the other is, so it works out quite nicely. Otherwise she goes from inn to inn as necessary.
④ Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?To be honest most of her gil (aside from the majority which goes to her family in Ul'dah) ends up being spent at the tavern the moment she's paid by her latest employer. ⑤ What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?A troublemaker contracted for anything from bodyguard duty to straight up war efforts against the Garlean Empire, and she's damn good at it. Ceri's pinpoint accuracy, speed, and spacial awareness is precisely what makes her a competent mercenary and absolutely deadly if left unchecked on the battlefield; her skills are centred around covering as much horizontal distance as quickly and precisely as possible. If there's a hint of weakness in a legionnaire's defences somewhere, she'll be the first one to find and exploit it to maximum effect, often before her target realizes she's suddenly in his face instead of fifty yalms away. Catching a kick to the head is pretty effective against armour considering the shotgun blast of kinetic energy any seasoned Pugilist or Monk can throw out... a snapped neck ends fights extremely quickly, after all. The freedom to pick and choose what contracts she takes is part of why she loves it so much. ⑥ What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?Carousing and socializing are her go-to time wasting activities. There's always someone to talk to over a tankard of crappy booze if you know where to look, and more business connections never hurts. ⑦ What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?Eat like a starving bear, drink like a fish, wake up horribly hung over and swear never to do it again. Next day, rinse and repeat. She never learns. >> top ASSOCIATIONS① Color ➠ Red ② Smell ➠ Cloves ③ Time of day ➠ Evening ④ Season ➠ Summer ⑤ Book ➠ ??????? ⑥ Music ➠ ???????????? ⑦ Place ➠ N/A ⑧ Substance ➠ Ale, Rum, or Mead.
